App of the Week: Headspace

I’ve got all sorts of apps that make my life so much easier. So I’m going to profile my faves in a weekly blog post. Here’s the first…


I came across a cute ad for this app while watching videos on YouTube.

So I did what I always do when I find an interesting app: I downloaded it and give it a whirl.

Headspace teaches you how to meditate daily with four-minute sound clips. The clips go through the reasons why meditation is a good thing, how to improve your daily mindfulness and meditation habits and why our brain sometimes acts the way it does. The app’s voice is a man’s voice with a slight British accent which I find calm and soothing. The app also has fun videos to guide your learning, which help those of us visual learners to understand concepts associated with meditation a little better.

If you like, Headspace can even notify you when it’s time for you to meditate. Try and find a time that works right into your daily routine so you don’t dismiss it more often than not. I found the best time was before going to bed, right after brushing my teeth as it helped to calm my mind before falling asleep.

The app is free to download, but if you want all the bells & whistles (I’m not there yet!), you’ll need to upgrade your subscription ($).
